Good news for Boyup Brook: the Telstra mobile tower is being upgraded. Work started on Monday and will run for around seven days. While it’s underway, Telstra mobile services in the area will be intermittently offline, for up to 10 hours at a stretch, as the upgrade is completed. A few things worth knowing: NBN, satellite internet, landlines and other mobile providers won’t be affected. If you need to call Triple Zero from a Telstra mobile while the site is offline, your call will automatically connect through another available network. Telstra customers in the area should get an SMS before work begins, and you can track the outage at telstra.com/mobile-outages. A short-term disruption for a better long-term connection. Better coverage is something Boyup Brook has been asking for, and this is a step toward it.

When something goes wrong out here, the person who turns up is almost always a volunteer. Today is Thank a First Responder Day. It honours the people who answer the call, police, fire and rescue, ambulance, SES, marine rescue and the Triple Zero operators, and the families who hold things together at home while they do. More than 95 per cent of WA’s emergency services personnel are volunteers, on DFES’s own figures. Out here, that’s just your neighbours. To every one of them, paid and volunteer: thank you. Swipe for a few easy ways to say thanks today. And if you’ve ever thought about putting your hand up, your local crew would be glad to have you. @fortemaustralia #ThankAFirstResponderDay #WarrenBlackwood #RegionalWA #Volunteers

I wasn’t complaining — I was advocating for women and children in crisis. During Estimates, I asked a simple question: what metrics and data does the Government actually need to see before it commits to a women’s shelter in Warren–Blackwood? That’s not “complaining”. That’s doing my job. I resent the suggestion that raising the concerns of vulnerable women and children is somehow a complaint. I’m trying to work with the Government to understand what evidence they require so we can finally secure the services our community desperately needs. Right now, women fleeing family and domestic violence are still being forced to travel 2 to 2.5 hours to access emergency accommodation and support. That is not good enough. The Minister acknowledged the advocacy and pressure coming from our region — and I’ll continue pushing because regional women deserve the same access to safety and support as anyone living in the city. This is about practical action, not politics. No woman fleeing violence should be left without support simply because of where she lives. #BevanListens #WarrenBlackwood #CommunityFirst #CareThatWorks #auspol
The Budget is handed down once a year. This week is when parliament gets to interrogate it. I’ll be in the chamber putting ministers on the record. Follow along live if you want to watch. I’ll put the link in my stories.

Semester one exams are on across Warren-Blackwood this week.

It’s a big moment, and you’ve put in the work to get here.

To the students: back yourself.
To the parents and teachers who’ve supported them: thank you.

A $3.5 billion surplus. And Warren-Blackwood got almost nothing.

No hospital funding. No DV refuge. No CT scanner at Manjimup. Labor’s priorities stop at the metropolitan boundary.

I’ll keep pushing until that changes.

WA has a $2.5 billion surplus. I’m standing here with a piggy bank because that’s about what Warren-Blackwood got from this Budget. No hospital upgrades. No high school expansion. No refuge for women fleeing violence. No new housing. No safer roads. Our communities power this state. We deserve better than this. #BevanListens #WarrenBlackwood #CommonSensePolitics #AskBevan #wapol

The State Government just announced $692 million for regional housing. Warren–Blackwood got zero. Seven cities were chosen: Bunbury, Kalgoorlie, Port Hedland, Karratha, Broome, Geraldton, Albany. Our communities, the ones driving tourism, agriculture and local jobs across the South West, weren’t on the list. That’s not an oversight. It’s a choice. In Margaret River, rental availability is below 1%. In Manjimup and Denmark, there’s a handful of properties between them. Local businesses can’t find staff. Essential workers, teachers, nurses, police, can’t find a place to live. A handful of houses here and there won’t fix years of underinvestment. You can’t grow regional WA without backing the regions properly. We’re doing the heavy lifting for this state’s economy. We’re being left off the map. The Premier needs to answer a simple question: why not here? If housing is affecting you or your business, I want to hear from you. #BevanListens #WarrenBlackwood #CommunityFirst #CommonSensePolitics #auspol
